Barbour said in a statement Friday he assured Ambassador Meera Shankar that he has discussed the issue with U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the Transportation Security Administration.
India's foreign minister, S.M. Krishna, said Thursday that the Dec. 4 incident in Mississippi was the second time in three months Shankar had undergone a pat-down at a U.S. airport.
Barbour, a Republican who might run for president in 2012, says he wants TSA to change procedures to "help make our visitors feel welcome and safe."
