OKOLONA - The county board and Department of Human Services are taking steps to alleviate an overcrowding situation in the Okolona Courthouse.

The Family and Children's Services division of DHS in Okolona has been cramped for office space and is planning to move into offices located in the former jail building.

The building was vacated with the opening of the new Chickasaw County Jail facility in the Houston Industrial Park. The jail facility in Houston also was closed at that time and now houses the Emergency Management offices.

The county has agreed to pay for materials and renovations to the former jailer's quarters and administrative offices in the old jail to create needed offices for the DHS unit.
