TUPELO – A planned StepFest and Health Fair, set for this weekend at the Link Centre, has been canceled.

The festival’s purpose was to raise awareness of the high-energy dance genre of step, an art form that developed in the African-American collegiate fraternity and sorority system.

The festival was going to focus on two competition divisions – college and high school.

“Despite the broad community support for this exciting cultural and healthy lifestyle event, the current response from the college step teams did not warrant proceeding with the program,” said event planner Shawn Brevard.

Still, Brevard is optimistic that another StepFest is in the future for the Link Centre.
