CALHOUN CITY - Police are investigating the Friday night shooting death of a former Calhoun City High School basketball and football standout.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green said Malcolm Belim, 22, was pronounced dead after being airlifted to the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was reportedly shot at Oakwood Apartment complex in Calhoun City.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from a fight.

Police arrested Melvin Bailey, 33, of Calhoun City and recovered a gun. Bailey was in police custody on Saturday and is charged with manslaughter.

Belim was a 2006 Daily Journal All-Area Football Team selection after leading the Wildcats to the Class 2A championship game. He played two seasons, at quarterback and defensive back, at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
