Some very knowledgeable people that I know have been saying for years that the jihadists (those who believe in killing non-Muslims to show honor to Allah) are not deranged individuals who have perverted an otherwise peaceful religion but are rather sane people taking seriously the teachings of the Koran, which is the holy book for Muslims.
The quote I am referring to is from Abdulhakim Muhammad. He is from Memphis, a convert to Islam who changed his name, who drove over to Little Rock and opened fire at a military recruiting station killing one soldier and wounding another. The Associated Press said Muhammad had written the judge handling his case pleading guilty to capital murder, and here is what he wrote:
“I was not insane or post-traumatic, nor was I forced to do it …(The killing) was justified according to Islamic Laws and the Islamic Religion, Jihad – to fight those who wage war on Islam.”
This is same exact thing Maj. Nidal Hasan, responsible for the Fort Hood massacre, was telling people before he committed his act of jihad.
This presents a real problem for us as Americans. Most of us, especially those in the media, do not want to even consider the possibility that these jihadists are actually following the teachings in the Koran because that concept of murdering to honor God is so foreign to the Western mindset. We won’t even entertain the thought because we do not know how to deal with it if it were true. We think just because not all Muslims commit acts of jihad, that somehow Islam is a “religion of peace” and that the jihadists are just distorting it. However, there are way too many Muslims who do take the Koran seriously and read it clearly for what it says. The vast majority of people who think of Islam as just another religion have never taken the time to seriously study what the Koran has to say to its adherents or to study to teaching of jihad. They are ignorant of which they speak, sometimes willfully so, because they do not know how to mentally process a religion in which the holy book admonishes believers to physically “wage war” on non-believers.
Look around the world. While not all Muslims are terrorists, almost all acts of terrorism are committed by Muslims. Shouldn’t we at least stop and ask the question: why is that? What is in it in the teachings of the Koran that motivates a completely sane person to murder fellow human beings in cold blood? This conversation and discussion needs to be had without fear of the politically correct crowd who want to pretend there is no such thing as jihad.
The reason there are so many willing to commit jihad is because Muslims are admonished and instructed in the Koran with one verse after another to do just that. The Koran mentions often about how devout Muslims are to treat, and in some verses “slay,” the “unbeliever.”
And the more Islam grows inside the United States the more the attacks of jihad will increase and more innocent Americans will die.
From May 2009 to last November authorities broke up 22 homegrown terror plots.
Under Democratic leadership political correctness ruled the day and so Attorney General Eric Holder pretended his did not know what radical Islam was during congressional hearings. He would not even acknowledge that it existed. There is an amazing video of him just sitting there playing like he did not know what jihad was.
Then there was the president answering an Indian student while traveling in that country, and she asked him what he thought about “jihad.” Mr. Obama, knowing full well what the student was asking him, answered her by saying there are many different interprepations for what jihad means. Again, in the name of political correctness, an otherwise intelligent man, feels the need to pretend he does not know what the student was talking about.
The Republicans are at least going to start the discussion about jihad. Rep. Peter King of New York, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, is going to hold congressional hearings on “radical Islam.” I hope King and the committee will get into what suras (verses) motivate these jihadists to commit such acts of violence, terror and evil.
In America it needs to be the Muslims who need to be put on the defensive about what the Koran teaches about jihad, instead of the rest of us being fearful of being labeled a bigot just because we ask questions. Just because all Muslims don’t act out on this teaching, does not mean it does not exists.
Our political leaders cannot continue to stick their heads in the sand on this issue or be scared of speaking the truth. The lives of Americans, and our way of life, are at risk.
