JACKSON — State and federal wildlife agencies are investigating the death of two black bears in Mississippi.

A $2,500 reward has been offered.

An adult black bear was found dead earlier this week in Hinds County near Edwards. A female bear wearing a GPS collar was found dead last November in Bolivar County.

Bob Oliveri with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it appears both bears were shot.

Black bears are protected by state and federal laws.

The Louisiana black bear typically lives in the mid to southern Mississippi counties.

The American black bear is generally found in the northern counties.
