Youth charged with rape in Myrtle attack

NEW ALBANY – A 16-year-old Union County boy will be charged with forcible rape in connection with a Feb. 27 assault on a girl in Myrtle as she was walking near Bankhead Street.

Union County Sheriff Tommy Wilhite said the boy will likely be charged as an adult after a May 17 appearance in Youth Court. His identity will not be released until that time.

Because of the violent nature of the crime with which he is charged, the suspect was arrested and held briefly at Union County Jail before being released on bond.
