JACKSON - The House, by almost a straight party line vote, rejected by a 68-54 margin the alternative plan offered by Republicans to redraw the chamber's 122 districts.

The House then approved a plan supported by the House majority Democratic leadership and the plan the Senate approved to redraw that chamber's 52 Senate seats.

The merged House and Senate plans still must go through another parliamentary roadblock in the House. If the roadblock is cleared, as expected, the merged plans will go to the Senate where members can vote to concur or to invite negotiations.
