OXFORD – Police are still trying to solve a Thursday night shooting near downtown Oxford. An officer heard shots west of the Square and found a parked, unoccupied car with three bullet holes. No one was injured.

One man was arrested for brandishing a weapon after he apparently shouted about going after the shooter. Martin said the suspect did not have a concealed carry permit for the firearm.

While gunfire is not common in Oxford, Martin said it is not unknown. Several weeks ago, an argument at a gas station resulted in a shot fired into the air.

Police continue to investigate last week’s shooting, but no leads have appeared thus far.

“We have been unsuccessful in finding out what the argument was about, who was involved or who did the shooting,” he said. “If someone knows they can call us at (662) 232-2400, or if they want to remain anonymous, they can call CrimeStoppers at 234-TIPS.”
