The local chapter of the Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition will make a presentation Tuesday in support of an ordinance banning smoking in places like restaurants.
The Commercial Appeal reports Mayor Sam Rikard has provided aldermen with samples of ordinances adopted by other cities that Olive Branch may use as a pattern.
For a proposed ordinance to go forward, two aldermen would have to support it, and then the board would vote. That would likely happen in a later meeting.
Rikard says a ban would apply to all public places, including restaurants and bars. Smoking already is banned in city buildings.
