The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau board on Monday reported that January's sales tax revenues were $244,167, down 1.77 percent from January 2010.
CVB Executive Director Neal McCoy said that while he doesn't like to see the drop, the figure was high in 2010, so it explains the slight decrease this fiscal year.
For the fiscal year that starts in October, the city's tourism sale tax revenues have grown 1.28 percent, for a total so far of $1.58 million.
The money comes from a special 2 percent tax on hotels, motels and restaurants in Tupelo.
Sports development director
Meanwhile, McCoy said the CVB is working to quickly fill the sports development director position, which has been vacant since Matt Wyatt left Friday for a Mississippi State University sports-related job.
A job search within the city yielded one applicant, McCoy said. The applicant will be interviewed today.
