Mississippi State wide receiver Chad Bumphis got good news this morning: X-rays showed that he did not suffer a broken ankle, only a sprain, said a team spokesman.

So the junior from Tupelo will not require surgery. The spokesman could not provide a time frame for Bumphis' recovery, but he should definitely be back in plenty of time for preseason camp in August.

Bumphis suffered the injury Monday in the weightroom, and he said on Twitter that the ankle was broken and would need surgery. He learned otherwise upon being evaluated this morning.
