The strom traveled through Vardaman about 8 p.m., knocking down trees and power lines and set of tornado sirens in Houston by 8:40 p.m.
Linda Griffin of Chickasaw Emergency Management Authority said only one injury was reported in the aftermath.
“There was serious damage to a house on Judy Street,” Griffin said. “A child was taken to the hospital by private car, but was treated and released.”
Other structural damage was reported on Airport Road, Parrish Street and Pontotoc Street, but no injuries were sustained.
The storm had a wide berth, knocking trees onto highways 8, 32 and Enon Road and work crews spent long hours on clean up for Thursday morning traffic.
“We had over 30 trees reported down across roads after the storm came through,” Griffin said. “Several hundred homes lost power.”
The Van Vleet area suffered a power outage that led to a failure in the water system. Griffin said an emergency generator was moved from Houston to Van Vleet to restore water service. Okolona Electric Department and Natchez Trace Electric Power Association continued to work across the county restoring power for residents through Thursday.
