First round of High School baseball playoffs kick off today

It’s playoff time for those MHSAA baseball teams that finished second and third in their respective divisions during the 2011 regular season.

Seventeen teams from the Daily Journal’s coverage area begin their first-round best-of-three series this weekend. In Class 1A, four of those teams will be going head to head:

Tremont will take on West Union and Smithville will tangle with last year’s state runner-up, Myrtle.

Meanwhile, 10 area teams received a first-round bye for winning their divisions. They will get their chance to participate in the postseason beginning next Friday.
