UPDATE: Verona accident leaves one dead

Verona emergency personal use the Jaws of Life to open the driver side door of a Ford Probe in order to remove the driver after a two car head collision on North Raymond Ave on Friday. A 61-year-old woman died in a two car accident Friday afternoon on N. Raymond Ave. in Verona.

Paula Hester of Nettleton died in the accident, according to Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green.

The collision took place around 11 a.m. Two individuals in the other vehicle fled the scene, according to Verona Police Chief Leo Mask. Mask said that vehicle from which the individuals fled was stolen.

Takei McFarland, 21, has been arrested by police and the Lee County Sheriff's Department. The second suspect Brandon Beckley later turned himself.

No charges have been released.

Bond will be set at a Monday initial appearance.

The accident is under investigation.
