Wren man dies in two vehicle accident

A 76-year-old Wren man died after a car accident Friday in Monroe County, according to Monroe County coroner Alan Gurley.

It was a two vehicle accident at 12:41 p.m. Friday on Highway 45 in Wren, just north of the Wren Fire Department.

Sam Willis, Jr., 76, of 30015 Wren Cemetery Road in Wren died in the accident.

Willis was the driver of a Chevy S-10 pickup the was struck by an 18 wheeler. Willis's grandson, age 24, was a passenger in the vehicle.

He was airlifted to North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was taken to Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Willis was dead at the scene from multiple trauma. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
