PEARL — A Thursday afternoon funeral is scheduled for a Pearl soldier killed this month in Afghanistan.

The body of Army Staff Sgt. David D. Self is set to arrive at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mississippi Air National Guard base in Rankin County.

Bill Clark, manager of Baldwin-Lee Funeral Directors in Pearl, says a procession is planned from the base to the funeral home on U.S. Highway 80. Visitation is 1-3 p.m., and the funeral is 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

The military says Self was among four soldiers killed by a roadside bomb May 16 in Zabul province.

Self was assigned to the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment based in Vilseck, Germany. He was 29.

Clark says Self's family plans to release an obituary after the funeral.
