TUPELO – Pat Keigley said she will miss having the opportunity to work with “children who need a little extra help” every day.

Keigley, a lead teacher who helps children struggling to read, is among 27 retiring employees with the Lee County School District. The group, which together has 558 years of experience in the system, was honored by the school board at its Tuesday meeting.

Keigley, who is retiring with 12 years in the district and 41 as an educator, said that after a brief rest, she likely will find new ways to help students.

Retiring Lee County Assistant Special Education Director Sheri Dillard is looking forward to spending more time with her granddaughter, and retiring director of federal programs Becky Hendrix is eager to open her own art studio in Shannon.

Meanwhile, Faye Saxon, who has served as drama director for each of the district’s three high schools, said that as she turns 71 next month, it is simply time to retire.
