NEW ALBANY - "Kids Unplugged" may sound like the name of a garage-band album, but it's actually the theme for the Union County Heritage Museum's summer discovery camp.

The "Museum Madness" day sessions are for children beginning grades 2 through 5 and will run each Monday from June 20 through July 25 (except Independence Day), from 9 a.m. to noon.

Each session will have its own theme, with educational activities, a make-and-take craft and refreshments. Cost is $10 per day for members of the Union County Historical Society and $13 for nonmembers.

In "A Rumpelstiltskin Adventure," kids will find that spinning a yarn is not always about a fairy tale: Patricia Holmberg from Little Bit Acres in Coldwater will show how spinning and weaving turn fiber into fashion.

A totally different spin is "The Science of Spin," which focuses on the fun of retro toys from Hula Hoops and YoYos.

Two sessions generate artistic abilities: In "Folk Art for Kids," participants will take a gander at some of the variety in the University of Mississippi's folk art collection and make some of their own.

Emily Stone, a former Disney cartoonist, will teach how to bring stories to life in "Cartooning for Kids."

"Young Chefs" presents Chef Anita Alef, who'll teach campers that it's sometimes good to play with their food - especially when playing means making good choices and creating tasty treats.
