TUPELO – A fundraising event for victims of the Smithville tornado will be held today at The Mall at Barnes Crossing from 10 a.m. until noon.

The event will include a telethon on WTVA and live radio remote broadcasts.

Donations also can be made at the event’s location at the food court.

Participating are Journal Inc., WTVA, Tupelo Radio Broadcasing and Mississippi Radio Group. Organizers hope to raise $50,000.

The money will go to the CREATE Foundation, which will use it to help victims of the April 27 tornado.
