MEMPHIS — Lawyers have given closing arguments in the Memphis trial of a man accused of the dismemberment death of the mother of his three children.

According to WMC-TV, the sequestered jury is expected to begin deliberations Friday in the trial of 33-year-old James Hawkins. The trial began last Friday.

Hawkins is charged with first-degree murder in the 2008 death of 28-year-old Charlene Gaither, who was stabbed and strangled.

He also is accused of forcing their 15-year-old daughter to help him dismember Gaither's body and dump her head, hands, feet and torso in north Mississippi.

Hawkins could face the death penalty if convicted.
