TUPELO - The city's top tourism leader, as of Friday, also is leading the state's tourism efforts.

Neal McCoy, executive director of the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau, last week started his one-year term as president of the Mississippi Tourism Association.

MTA is a 250-member organization that represents the tourism industry in Mississippi.

McCoy's responsibilities will include overseeing production of the state's official tour guide, offering a cooperative advertising program, monitoring legislative actions affecting the industry and producing a statewide educational conference - the Mississippi Governor's Conference on Tourism.

McCoy leads an elected board of directors that represents all segments within the hospitality industry.

He previously served on the board of directors for MTA as a regional representative.

McCoy has been executive director of the Tupelo CVB since last year. Previously, he held the titles of deputy director and sports development director.
