TCC professional Jim Rose said 115 players, representing four states, have signed up for the 36-hole event scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
“It’s a large field,” Rose said. “I’m glad our tournament’s still in demand. Other than the state junior, it’s one of the best.”
West, who recently qualified for the United States Junior Amateur Championship, won medalist honors in May’s MHSAA Class 6A state championship tournament while playing as a junior for four-time state champion Tupelo High.
Last year’s Pros of Tomorrow age 16-18 division champion, Chad Cupples of DeSoto Central High, is back to defend his title. His prep teammate, Braden Thornberry, is also entered. Thornberry recently won his age division (13-14) at the prestigious Future Masters in Dothan, Ala.
West’s Golden Wave teammates, Austin Rose and Hayden Buckley, are also entered.
The Pros of Tomorrow is also part of the North Mississippi Coca-Cola Junior Tour. Players will earn double points in the Tour’s standings with their finishes in the four age categories: 11-under, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18. There will also be an open girls division.
“Most of the players in our points races have entered,” Coca-Cola Junior Tour co-director John Dewey said. “It’s going to be a pretty strong field.”
The golfers should expect to be tested by the TCC course and its Champion Bermuda grass greens.
“The course is in good shape,” Rose said. “The rough’s up a little bit with the rain we’ve had. The greens are perfect. They’re rolling about 11 (on the stempmeter).
“That’s about as fast as they’d want ... maybe a little faster.”
