MEMPHIS – Tupelo bank robbery suspect Robert Shantz and another man will remain in jail until a grand jury considers their case.

U.S. District Court records show that Shantz and co-defendant Johnny Leon Harris waived detention hearings last week in Western Tennessee.

Shantz, 32, of Georgia and Harris of Oklahoma are accused in the July 15 armed holdup of a Cordova, Tenn., bank.

Their case will be turned over to a federal grand jury to decide if formal charges will be filed against them.

Shantz also is a suspect in the armed robberies of five other banks across the Southeast, including the West Main Street branch of Trustmark Bank in Tupelo.

They remain jailed in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
