Statesmen picked to repeat in GSC

CLEVELAND — Delta State enters the 2011 season as the team to beat in the Gulf South Conference after the Statesmen finished first in the 2011 GSC Pre-Season Coaches' Poll.

The Statesmen led the voting with 14 total points with two first-place votes and two second-place votes.

The Statesmen advanced to the NCAA Division II title game a year ago and finished in a three-way tie for GSC crown.

North Alabama is picked second and Valdosta State is third.

Delta State will host Elizabeth City State for its football opener on Aug. 27 at McCool Stadium.
