According to Norman Cruse, a distribution technician with the department, two phases got crossed up and knocked out power around the downtown Tupelo and Park Hill neighborhood areas.
Several traffic lights were also out along East Main Street and Front Street. Cruse said they had to inspect the area and then were able to have the power restored in less than 30 minutes.
The Tupelo Fire Department also responded because sparks were seen.
