PASCAGOULA - Pascagoula police say a 42-year-old Pascagoula man has died after being hit by lightning.

Lt. Vernon Smith says the man was at the end of the pier at the city's beach on Sunday afternoon when lightning hit.

Smith says he won't be able to release the man's name before today.

He says the thunderstorm was small, and quickly over.

According to the National Weather Service, this is at least the 14th lightning death nationwide this year, but the first in two years in Mississippi.
