TUPELO – Two men have been charged with possession of counterfeit bills.

Anthony D. Jones, 40, of Birmingham, Ala., and Terry Thomas Brown, 46, of Huntington, Tenn. were arraigned in U.S. Federal Court in Aberdeen Tuesday.

The men were arrested after allegedly passing the bills and three yard sales in Tupelo, according to Capt. Chuck Bunn. About $5,300 in counterfeit money in bills of $100 were recovered.

One of the homeowners at a yard sell recognized the money was not real and called police. Shortly after the call patrolmen located the vehicle and arrested the suspects without incident.

Bunn said the men targeted Tupelo yard sales as an opportunity to pass the fake bills.

Tupelo police detectives are working with the Secrete Service on the case. Bond for both men was denied.
