JACKSON - Jackson police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old Lanier High School student.

Police said Eric Gordan was booked with murder after surrendering Wednesday.

Deronnie Spencer, who played football and basketball at Lanier, died early Sunday at University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was taken after he was shot five times as he sat in a friend's car.

The Hinds County coroner said Spencer suffered bullet wounds to the head, neck and chest.

Jackson Police have not said what the motive was for the shooting.
