Black Sox win opener in Waterway playoffs

The Verona Black Sox defeated the Tupelo Tigers 10-8 Sunday in the first game of a best-of-three series for the Tombigbee Waterway League’s North Division championship.

Game 2 in the semi-pro baseball series is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Black Sox Park in Verona.

In Sunday’s win, Sox pitcher Nathan White recorded 19 strikeouts while teammate Bo Ivy belted a grand slam home run. Rasheen Dilworth also homered for Verona.
