On Sept. 2, the night before BYU’s opening football weekend showdown with Ole Miss, several members of the Cougars’ squad will visit the church on Thomas Street for what they’re calling a fireside. The public is invited and the event starts at 7 p.m. Sunday dress is recommended.
“It’s inspiring that strong men like these would take the time to witness to the importance of Christ in their lives,” said Gina Thorderson, public relations director for the Tupelo Stake of the LDS Church.
Coach Bronco Mendenhall will lead members of his squad in faith sharing and even a little singing.
“The firesides have been a way for us to make a very clear statement of what our priorities are, or should be,” said Mendenhall in a press release.
“Football is simply the vehicle we use to help others come to a knowledge of what really brings joy and happiness to our lives,” he said.
The Cougars will have firesides before each of their seven road games this season.
