The Tupelo Police Department responded to a shots fired call at Barley Courts Apartments in Tupelo at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Officers arrived to find one victim who had been shot. The victim was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center; his condition is unknown at this time.

Witness at the scene advised the suspect had run north of the apartment complex. A Tupelo Police K-9 officer tracked and apprehended the suspect hiding in the wooded area behind the complex.

The suspect is Martinez Greg Hughes, 21, of 107 Louise Drive/Anthony Street, Verona.

Hughes was charged with aggravated assault and his bond was set at $50,000 after an arraignment today in Lee County Justice court.

The weapon recovered was a .380 semi-automatic that had been reported stolen from New Albany.

A motive for the shooting is unclear at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.
