SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Mississippi prison inmate has been extradited to Utah to face criminal charges for an alleged robbery and sexual assault at an Ogden mall in 1996.

The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports (http://bit.ly/rjclCQ) police say DNA evidence has linked 39-year-old Deon J. Lucero to the attack on a Newgate Mall clerk.

Court records show Lucero has been charged with one count each of sexual abuse, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.

If convicted, Lucero could face a life sentence.

Mississippi corrections officials say Lucero was extradited to Utah through an executive agreement on Sept. 9. He was serving a 10-year prison term on a sexual battery conviction.

A hearing is set for Thursday in Ogden's 2nd District Court.

A message left for Lucero's defense attorney was not immediately returned.
