To the winner goes the spoils, and Delta State started collecting on Monday.

The Statesmen (7-1) moved up a spot to No. 1 in the AFCA Division II coaches poll for the first time since Oct. 2, 2001.

That followed last week’s 30-24 overtime win at North Alabama, which fell from the top ranking to No. 5.

Also Monday, DSU quarterback Micah Davis was named Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He passed for 339 yards and a touchdown and ran for another in last Thursday’s victory.

Delta State entertains No. 10 Valdosta State on Saturday. The kickoff has been moved to 7 p.m, to accommodate broadcast on ESPN3.
