TUPELO - The Lee County Sheriff's Department has been recognized nationally for supporting the military.

On Friday, Sheriff Jim Johnson accepted the Patriotic Employer Award given by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The award is given to employers who go above and beyond what is required to make sure their employees in the National Guard have job security.

"Sheriff Johnson has been a great employer to guardsmen and reserves and we want to thank him for that," said Bob Chesnut, an ESGR representative. "A soldier needs three things to be successful, and that's the support of his family, his unit and employer. Sheriff Johnson and his department is a great support for those guardsmen who work for him."

Kerry Reddick is one of those men. Reddick, a deputy for the Lee County Sheriff's Department and a member of the 155th, said Johnson has been supportive of his military obligations.

Johnson said men like Reddick are assets and he said he is doing his duty as an American by supporting men like Reddick.

"Men like Reddick make my job easy," said Johnson. "It is our honor to support our Guardsmen."
