Cost of living increase for Pontotoc city employees approved

In the Tuesday night board meeting Pontotoc city aldermen in a 3-2 decision voted to give all employees a cost of living adjustment for the pay period beginning October 22 for regular employees and beginning October 24 for police and fire department employees.

Herman Austin and D.R. Simmons voted against the measure.

The aldermen unanimously voted to give Dennis Dillard, Terry Lynn Donaldson a pay raise to $17.30 per hour.

The Pontotoc fire department has adopted a policy that all employees must reside in the city fire district. Current employees which reside outside the district will be grandfathered in.

Derrick Walls request to place a ham radio antenna on his property on Highland Drive was addressed in this meeting, aldermen tabled the request for further study.

WADE equipment has asked for a sign variance, there will be a public hearing on the matter November 15.

Garbage rates are set to increase by 28 cents.

Lights for the new rescue truck were ordered to be purchased ar a cost of $5,473.03.

Plants for the large containers on Main Street were allowed to be purchased at a cost of $400 out of tourism monies.

Aldermen voted down a motion to require the city research the setting of guidelines for wages and promotions based on job description, performance, experience, training and job responsibility. Voting for this measure was Herman Austin and D.R. Simmons.

In two separate motions it was proposed that a position of senior court clerk and deputy park director should be created. Both these measures were voted down with Austin and Simmons voting for it.
