"Last year's event was a huge success, and I know this one will be too," said event organizer Hayden Hiter. "We hope people from around the region will plan a weekend getaway, or maybe just a day trip to take advantage of the charm and quality of Oxford's shopping as they prepare for the holidays."
The 2011 Oxford Holiday Market has expanded to two days, adding a preview party on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. with food, live music, a cash bar and the chance to make prime selections. Santa Claus will be on site to have portraits made with pets, as the preview party is a fundraiser for the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society. Tickets for the Friday preview are $10 and can be purchased in advance at Oxford Conference Center, at the Humane Society or at the door the night of the event.
Nearly 40 vendors will offer merchandise as varied as women's and children's apparel and accessories, paintings, birdhouses, outdoor dampécor, pewter, soaps, home furnishings, toys, photography, pottery, furniture and frames. Food items are also among the offerings, from Southern sauces and food mixes to unique cookbooks and handmade chocolates.
Some vendors will offer items specifically for the holiday season - cards, ornament, pillows, gift baskets, garland, centerpieces and other arrangements, Christmas tea towels and gift wrapping. To add to the holiday spirit, Santa Claus can have pictures made with his favorite Oxford residents and visitors that day. Saturday hours for the Oxford Holiday Market are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is $5.
