A date for a possible hearing has not yet been set. The reasons for Ellis' firing are also not yet clear. He had been at the school since the 2006-07 school year and also directed the Wave Connection show choir.
"I appreciate and value the Tupelo Public School District, its students, staff and the community in which my family and I live," Ellis said in a statement released through Butts. "The operating principles adopted by the school district are central to my philosophy as a Tupelo teacher. I look forward to a hearing with the school board, and I will model the district's values of honesty, respect, dignity and integrity as we move through this process. I encourage others to do likewise."
The school district released a statement on Friday noting that it can not comment on personnel matters.
"While the Tupelo Public School District desires to provide as much information as possible to the public, personnel policies and privacy laws prevent us from commenting on this matter," the statement said.
