FULTON – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into the hanging death of an inmate at the Itawamba County Jail on Friday.

Brad Phillip Craig, 40, of Toledo, Ohio, was found by officers at his cell at 6:57 p.m. Friday, said Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson. Craig committed suicide by hanging himself with a bed sheet.

Craig was arrested in Itawamba County on a grand larceny charge in September.

Craig was not under a suicide watch at the jail and had given the officers no reason to believe he would attempt to commit suicide, Dickinson said.

Craig’s body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy, since he was an inmate who died while in custody, Dickinson said.
