Two Sun Belt Conference football teams with first-year coaches – whose names have cropped up in discussions of the Ole Miss vacancy – will go bowling this season:

• Arkansas State (9-2), coached by former Ole Miss assistant coach Hugh Freeze, will play in the Jan. 8 GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The Red Wolves will likely face the Mid-America Conference runner up, likely Northern Illinois or Ohio.

After an open week, Arkansas State closes the regular season on Dec. 3 against Troy.

• Louisiana-Lafayette (8-3), coached by former Mississippi State assistant Mark Hudpseth, will play in the Dec. 17 New Orleans Bowl. The Ragin’ Cajuns are scheduled to take on a team from Conference USA.

It’s the first bowl trip for ULL since 1970. The team closes out its regular season Saturday at Arizona.
