SMITHVILLE – Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc., has teamed up with various vendors and presented more than $100,000 worth of donations to Smithville Schools as part of its Hibbett Sports Operations Sports Renovation program.

Hibbett’s Vice President of Marketing Joy McCord said what inspired this event at Smithville was when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans they wondered what a little company like theirs could do. They started the sports renovation program to help schools that were hurt by natural disasters.

They picked three schools to help and came to Smithville on a tour. While McCord was in a Smithville store, she met Angie Stevens, who has been involved in the Smithville recovery from day one. Stevens told her about the town and school and then carried them on a tour of the campus.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, a group of Hibbett Sports employees and volunteers gathered to help the school clean up their facility. They also organized all of the donations from Hibbett Sports and its partners.
