OXFORD – Ole Miss associate head coach Gunter Brewer left the Rebels staff on Tuesday to join Larry Fedora’s new staff at North Carolina.

“With the respect I have for Gunter and his love for Ole Miss, it is unfortunate that he will not remain a part of this program,” new coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “We did our best to keep him here.”

The son of former Rebel player and head coach Billy Brewer, Gunter joined the Rebel staff last January as passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

This marked Brewer’s second term in Oxford, having served in graduate assistant positions 1988-90 under his father.

Brewer worked at North Carolina for five seasons (2000-04) before working with Fedora at Oklahoma State for three years.
