Anjuan Brown must resign after being elected to the Leflore County Board of Supervisors.
A 2003 attorney general's opinion says nobody can simultaneously serve on the board of supervisors and the school board because the board of supervisors is part of the judicial branch of government and the school board is part of the executive branch. According to the opinion, the Mississippi Constitution's separation of powers doctrine prevents someone from holding offices in two different branches.
The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (http://bit.ly/w150lI ) Brown, who's served on the board since 2003, plans to step down soon. He won a special election last week over incumbent Preston Ratliff and Charles McCain Jr. to become District 3's supervisor.
