PONTOTOC – A 12-year-old Cairo community boy died Thursday morning from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Pontotoc County Coroner Kim Bedford said James Churchill, a fifth-grader at North Pontotoc Elementary School, was pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County.

According to Bedford, the victim’s teenage brother and two female juveniles were in the Churchill home on Cairo Loop when the incident occurred.
