TUPELO - No one else was arrested in connection with the incident involving Chad Bumphis at a downtown Tupelo bar on New Year's Eve, and police are still searching for his assailant.

According to Tupelo Police Sgt. James King, of the Street Crimes Unit, officers looked for the man who allegedly assaulted the 22-year-old junior Mississippi State University wide receiver with a champagne bottle, but he had already fled the scene.

King said nobody on the scene knew who the assailant was, and the police are still looking.

Bumphis suffered a broken tooth and a laceration to his neck during the incident. He was arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

Tupelo Police Maj. Jackie Clayton said Bumphis was outside the Atlanta Bar & Grill shouting and cursing when officers arrived. Police tried for several minutes to calm him down, but he was not cooperative.
