Former state Rep. Mark DuVall of Mantachie is in the race for the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat.

Rickey Cole, state party director, said he received DuVall's qualifying papers in the mail today.

DuVall was defeated last year for re-election to the Mississippi House to represent District 19.

He is the only Democrat so far to show public interest is trying to retake the District 1 U.S. House seat from the Republican Party, which defeated incumbent Rep. Travis Childers, D-Booneville, in 2008.

Rep. Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, recently qualified to seek re-election as a Republican, along with Southaven businessman Robert Estes.

An update from the state Republican Party is expected to show that former Eupora mayor Henry Ross, who lost to Nunnelee in the 2008 Republican primary, is back in the race.

Cole also said Dr. Roger Weiner, a Clarksdale cardiologist, filed papers to oppose incumbent U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Tupelo.
