BATESVILLE — The death of an inmate in the Panola County jail has been ruled a suicide.

Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge tells the Panolian that an autopsy showed the inmate hanged himself.

Sheriff Dennis Darby says 44-year-old David Charles Williams was found hanging in his cell about 10:50 p.m. Jan. 11 during an inmate check by jailers.

Investigation of the death was turned over to the North Mississippi Satellite Crime Lab and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
