SALTILLO – A Tupelo woman is in the Lee County jail and accused of embezzling from the doctor’s office where she worked.

According to Saltillo Police Chief Steve Brooks, Shulanda Nicole Jennings, 38, was arrested Jan. 17 and charged with embezzlement. She was on probation from an earlier embezzlement charge through the city of Tupelo, so she has a hold on her through the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Brooks said about $7,000 was missing from Miller Psychiatric Clinic’s money box. Police are waiting on video from the bank where she supposedly took checks as well.

Brooks said when she was hired as the office manager, she reportedly used her middle name instead of last name, so her background check did not reveal a criminal history.
