Every year since 2007, Northeast has either qualified as a team or sent representatives to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Golf Championships.
Austin Holt (New Albany) kept Northeast streak alive in 2011 by firing an even par 72 on the final day of the national event to finish with a four-day, 305 and a fifty-seventh finish overall in the national tournament.
In 2010, a pair of Tiger linksters – Blake Hatfield (Booneville) and Brandon Robbins (Corinth) – qualified for the national event while Hatfield made a solo appearance in Northeast’s first year back in Division II competition in 2009.
During the 2007 and 2008 season, Northeast went undefeated through the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges(MACJC) Division III ranks and captured the Region XXIII crown and appeared in the NJCAA Division III National Golf Championship in Jamestown, NY.
In 2012, Northeast hopes to continue that streak with a balanced team of three sophomores and four freshmen.
Blake Conlee (New Albany), Taylor Trimble (Thrasher)and Easton Cartwright (Booneville) all return for their second year as Tiger linksters while Ty Lindsey (Baldwyn), Daren Farrar (Thrasher) Austin Woodard (Muscle Shoals, Ala.) and Jordan Wilson (Baldwyn) begin their first season at Northeast.
Northeast gets its first shot at proving its dominance in the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) when the season opens up at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian on February 26-27 in the MACJC first tour stop of the year hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
A quick turnaround will see the Tigers play their second and third tour stops of the year in the span of four days before taking three weeks off.
Northeast’s second tour stop of the year includes a stop at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond on March 3-4 while the third tour stop keeps the Tigers in south Mississippi at the Brookhaven Country Club and Wolf Hollow Golf Club on March 5-6. Hinds Community College hosts the second tour stop of the year while Copiah-Lincoln Community College mans the third.
Northeast gets a little closer to home in the MACJC’s fourth stop of the year when Northeast travels to the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville on March 25-26 in a pair of rounds hosted by East Mississippi Community College.
Northeast continues its trek through north Mississippi on April 2-3 as the Northwest Mississippi Community College event will see the Tigers take rounds at North Creek Golf Course in Horn Lake and at Wedgewood Golf Course in Olive Branch in the fifth and final regular seasontour stop of the year.
Itawamba Community College has the honor of hosting the MACJC State Golf Championships on April 16-17 at Riverbirch Golf Course in Amory while Northeast plays host to the NJCAA Region XXIII Golf Championships on April 22-23 at Big Oaks Golf Club in Tupelo.
With the national tournament streak on the line, Northeast will look to advance through the Region XXIII tournament and earn a spot in the NJCAA National Golf Championship to be held at Swan Lake Resort in Indiana and Indiana National Golf Club on May 20-25.
