Leona Thompson

OXFORD – Leona Buckner Thompson, 92, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc.

Elaine Ray

WEST POINT – Elaine Stevens Ray, 74, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Sept. 6, 1937, in the Mississippi Delta to Mattie Lee Prestridge Stevens and Wade Stevens. She was a machine operator for Artex International for over 30 years and a member of First Pentecostal Church. She loved working outside in her yard and with her flowers. She married Willie Louie Ray on May 5, 1956, in Eupora.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Stan Blaylock officiating and Bro. Dathan Lambeth assisting. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Eupora. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Willie L. Ray; her daughter, Linda Gail Koleski (Don), and her son, Thomas W. Ray, all of West Point; three grandchildren, Chelsey Byrd (Chris), Madison Ray and Brandi Smith; six great-grandchildren, Ronnie Kay Byrd, Justin Byrd, Zack Byrd, Cody Traylor, Casey Traylor and Carey Traylor; and her sisters, Betty Hamby (Eddie) of Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob Ray, and her brother, Carl Stevens.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Busby, Randy Rico, James Rico, Michael Ray, Wayne Ray and Eddie White.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942; or to Mt. Zion Cemetery Care Fund, c/o Dorothy Ray, 1132 MLK Jr. Drive, Eupora, MS 39744; or the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Calvert Funeral Home.

Zakaylin Jones

OXFORD – Zakaylin Jones, infant son of Miesha Jones and the late Martezz Evans, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Feb. 19, at Philadelphia M.B. Church Cemetery in Oxford. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Mae Simmons

OXFORD – Willie Mae Simmons, 97, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford.

Annetta Davis

IUKA – Annetta Davis, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Tishomingo Manor. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel of Corinth.

Martha McNeece

AMORY – Martha Todd Faulkner McNeece, 74, died on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House. Born on April 7, 1937, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late William Clayton and Margaret Louise Todd Faulkner. She was a graduate of Amory High School, class of 1955. She married Arthur Lewis “Sam” McNeece Jr. on Oct. 26, 1969. Retiring in 1982 after working in retail sales, she was the first female manager at Walmart. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Feisty, independent and outgoing, she was very proud of her family. She enjoyed playing golf, painting, reading, a wide variety of music and spending time with her friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with the Rev. Warren Coile officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Morgan (Gary) of Tupelo and Laura Hood of Amory; son, Mike Moreland (Natalie) of Amory; sister, Sidney McKinnis (Archie) of Gallatin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Samantha Logan (John), Clay Moreland, Alan Morgan, Shane Hood, William Morgan, Victoria Hood, Omar Hood, Layla Moreland and Crystal Moreland; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Lily Rose and John Samuel; and nephews, Steve McKinnis (Jane) of Watertown, Tenn., and Bo McKinnis (Nikki) of Nashville, Tenn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lewis “Sam” McNeece, and many aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be John R. Logan, Clay Moreland, Alan T. Morgan, Shane M. Hood, William A. Morgan and Omar J. Hood.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Parham and AHS class of 1955.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 147, Amory, MS 38821; Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004; or a charity of choice.

BOONEVILLE – Patricia Ann “Pat” Holland, 48, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2012, at North Mississippi Center in Tupelo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Jackson

NEW ALBANY – John T. Jackson, 85, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service in New Albany.

Peggy Rodgers

PONTOTOC – Peggy Lynn Rodgers, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was a member of West Heights Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School class of 1958 and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Mississippi College in 1962. She taught in DeSoto County for 16 years and Memphis City Schools for 11 years before retiring. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and was a loving and giving person.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Ryan Rodgers and Dr. David Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one sister, Betty Gail Kirk of Ripley; one brother, Billy Clay Rodgers (Rhonda) of Pontotoc; a special friend, Gloria Lanoux of Pontotoc; four nephews, Chuck Kirk (Kristie) of Peachtree City, Ga., Brennan Kirk (Melissa) of Ripley, Martin Rodgers (Jennifer) of Pontotoc and Ryan Rodgers of New Orleans, La.; seven great-nieces and great-nephews, Dustin Schaefer, Duncan Schaefer, Andrew Rodgers, Rebecca Grace Rodgers, Caleb Kirk, Olivia Joy Kirk and Asher Kirk; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clay Rodgers and Janice Charlene Tutor Rodgers; and two nieces, Jannelyn Kirk Schaefer and Lorie Gaillynn Kirk.

Pallbearers will be Martin Rodgers, Brennan Kirk, Joey Rodgers, Mike Rodgers, Ken Rodgers and David Rodgers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Heights Baptist Church.

BIGGERSVILLE – James Asbin “Buck” Pruitt, 84, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Oak Grove CME Church. Burial will be in the Rienzi Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

BOONEVILLE – Vance Shumpert died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel in Corinth.

Julet Pinson

TUPELO – Julet Pinson, 66, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at her residence in Tupelo. She was a native of Pontotoc and the daughter of the late John Marshall Hurd Sr. and Polly Duncan Hurd. She was a member of Naylor Chapel CME Church and a retired cook. She loved to fish, do crossword puzzles and cook.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Naylor Chapel CME Church. The Rev. Ernie Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Joe Pinson Sr. of Tupelo; four daughters, Donna (Sam) Ewing of Tupelo, Marsha (Herbert) Townsend of Pontotoc, Marla Davis and Todadamekia (Jacob) Rios, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Bobby Joe (Ronda) Pinson Jr. and Anthony (Leslie) Pinson of Verona; one sister, Mary Lee Stuart of Pontotoc; one brother, John Marshall Hurd Jr. of Pontotoc; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today with family hour from 6 to 7p.m., all at the funeral home.

BOONEVILLE – Gertrude Humphrey, 98, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel in Corinth.

CORINTH – Wanda Lynn Jones Miller, 43, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, in Corinth.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in Antioch Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lois Harvey

SMITHVILLE – Lois Lee Harvey, 65, died on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on June 27, 1946, in Aberdeen, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Lorene Smith Sullivan. She attended Aberdeen Schools. Before retiring, she had worked as a seamstress in local garment and furniture plants. She was a Baptist. A sweet lady who enjoyed having fun, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, watching westerns, playing cards, dancing and music from the 1960’s era.

She is survived by her daughters, Anita Dabbs (Coy) and Kim Estis (Brian) of Smithville; sons, Michael Phelps (Lana) of Amory and Roger Phelps (Teresa) of Aberdeen; sister, Brenda Young (Barry) of Nettleton; brother, Hubert Neal (Darlene) of Franklinton, La.; grandchildren, Leanna and Kayla Phelps. Roger Dale Phelps, Maggie and Kerra Grace Estis, and Darby Dabbs; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Chloe Isabella, Madison, Kayden, Tony, Michael, Robin and Ashleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, G.K. “Red” Harvey; and brothers, Bobby, James and Willie Neal.

Pallbearers will be Coy, Van, Michael and Tony Dabbs, Jared Spenner and D.J. Wigginton.
